The Swan Valley Stampeders have a chance to take a stranglehold on their best-of-seven series against the Portage Terriers tonight. The action kicks off at 8 p.m. A win would give the Stampeders a commanding 3-0 lead in the series, and give them a chance to wrap up the series Thursday at home. The team is still buzzing following the 2-1 overtime victory Sunday night. Chris Reimer was the hero, as was netminder Jayme Janzen, who was rock solid in goal for the Stampeders.
Here's a few interesting statistics to consider as the series resumes tonight: The Stampeders have been up 2-0 on the Portage Terriers before. In the 2003-04 season, the Stampeders upset the No. 2-seeded Neepawa Natives and then won the first two games against the No. 4-ranked Terriers, who had upset the No. 1-seeded OCN Blizzard in the opening round. Portage, however, would win four straight to make it to the league final ... Swan Valley now holds 6-2 record against Portage in overtime in the playoffs, including a perfect 5-0 record at home. Who has scored these overtime winners? Jared Dougherty, Dave Grimson, Jordan Oakley (all three were defencemen), Stephan Vigier (with two, one on the road, one at home) and Chris Reimer.
